Began playing jazz with kindred spirits at Sydney University and was a foundation member of the Black Opal Jazz Band. In the early 1960s he spent time in Melbourne as the drummer with Frank Traynor's Jazz Preachers at the Melbourne Jazz Club and other gigs.
On his return to Sydney he rejoined the Opals and has played with a great varierty of other groups. Since 1986 he has been a member of the New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra and has toured with that band in the U.S plus festivals at Edinburgh and Brecon.
He is still with the NWJO and a smaller group, Sydney Swing.
